Perennial Celebrate Brooklyn! favorite ALLOY ORCHESTRA is simply “the best in the world at accompanying silent films.” (Roger Ebert) Armed with their signature “rack of junk” along with various zippy synthesizers and expressive noisemakers, they bring old films to life in singular fashion. And on a beautiful summer night in the park—that’s as good as it gets.

Their latest score tackles the 1926 adventure/drama classic THE SON OF THE SHEIK, Rudolf “Latin Lover” Valentino’s final performance on the silver screen. Valentino is in top form starring as both the wise old Sheik and his impulsive son Ahmed in this wild tale of passion, betrayal, and redemption. Arguably a better film than the 1922 original, this sequel was a box office smash, grossing over $1 million in its first year. When Valentino died suddenly on the eve of its release, the ensuing mass hysteria further solidified his status as the great hunk of the silent era.

To set the stage, GHOST TRAIN ORCHESTRA digs deep into Harlem and Chicago jazz of the 1920s. Their third album, featuring fresh arrangements of standards by Cecil Scott’s Bright Boys and Charlie Johnson’s Paradise Orchestra, is due for release in May. Prepare for a nine-piece that packs the stage and “creates its own electrifying musical gold.” (NYC Jazz Record)
