The oldest person in the world is the queen of Kings County.
Brooklyn resident Susannah Mushatt Jones took the crown as the oldest person on Earth this week after 116-year-old Jeralean Talley died Wednesday in suburban Detroit, according to the Gerontology Research Group.
Jones will turn 116 on July 6.
“What’s going on is incredible,” the supercentenarian’s 75-year-old niece, Lois Judge, told the Daily News. “Who would have thought.”
Jones had no idea Sunday that she was the second oldest person living and was surprised to learn later in the week that she now holds the crown as oldest human. She has long been the oldest person in New York City and has been fêted annually with a party at her senior center in East New York. This year’s celebration is on July 7.
She’s been blind for 15 years, is hard of hearing and uses a wheelchair, but has kept in remarkably good health over the years. Until age 100, she was cooking for herself, mostly southern favorites like barbecue and collard greens.
The key to her longevity? Four strips of bacon and eggs every morning, according to her niece.
“365 days a year – that’s her meal,” Judge, of Brooklyn, told the News. “She eats independently every day. She gets out of bed every day and into her recliner. She eats very hearty – three good meals.”
