In “Back Drop,” Kurdish artist Savas Boyraz explores the stories of individual Kurdish guerilla fighters using portraiture. Focusing on individuals, the exhibit puts a face to a complex political struggle, exploring a culture that struggles for its rights.2–7.

Prospect Park Alliance offers twice the Pop-Up fun with a second tent that explores the Park’s aquatic habitats. Explore how seasonal shifts affect the behavior of animals and influence plants in Prospect Park 10 am – 3 pm.

 

A beautiful, huge crystal nautilus shell with 30 grand luminescent fish, takes riders on an aquatic journey. 10 am to 10 pm.

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum will ride Hallyu (the Korean Wave) with a new exhibit that brings modern-day South Korea to New York City. 10 am to 5 pm.

NESH: Mind, Body, Soul launches their yoga classes, open to participants of all levels. 10 am, 11 am.

Through the magic of patterns found in nature and hands-on activities featuring objects from BCM’s 29,000 cultural and natural science collection, the exhibit promotes concepts of math and science through hands-on learning experiences. 10 am–5 pm.

New Utrecht Reformed Church holds its autumn Thrift Sale. Frames, housewares, clothing, linens, shoes, books, toys, handbags, jewelry, pictures, housewares, and Christmas items will be sold, with benefits going to the Church. 10 am–3 pm.

“Handmade Abstract” showcases 13 artists at varying stages of their careers, dedicated to the visual language of abstraction in everyday, physical realities through a variety of mediums.

Children are encouraged to explore science through slides, seesaws, climbing webs, a water play area, sand boxes, and more, weather permitting. 10 am–6 pm.

The newly renovated area is open and features new species, new exhibits , and a domestic petting zoo.

The Daughters of the American Revolution will honor the patriots of the Revolutionary War with a wreath-laying ceremony at Fort Greene Park’s Ships Martyrs Monument. 10 am.

Brooklyn’s last-remaining forest becomes a real-world laboratory for hands-on discovery. Take an in-depth look at the largest organism within this habitat with bird-watching, mulch-spreading, and outdoor play. 10 am–3 pm.

Starting at the Dancing Crane Cafe, you will balance like a flamingo, run like an ostrich and crawl like a crocodile – 11 am – 3pm.

The first-ever Brownsville Harvest Festival, which will provide a source of fresh, healthy food and help members of the Brownsville community to get active in urban farming. Activities include health screenings, fitness demonstrations, and a neighborhood cook-off. 11 am to 3 pm.

An exhibition of celebrated Puerto Rican-Born painter Francisco Oller in transnational context, with paintings and works on paper by Oller, his predecessors, and his contemporaries in the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States. 11 am–6 pm.

New York Transit Museum hosts an exhibition celebrating the Verrazano Bridge’s 50th anniversary. Attractions include a timeline of the bridge’s construction, documentation and first-person perspectives of the construction, and notes and sketches from Robert Moses’ office. 11 am–5 pm.

United Photo Industries presents an exhibition of the winners of the third annual Tokyo International Photography Competition. Eight photographers from around the world were selected by an illustrious jury of photography experts; come see the winner’s exhibition! 11 am–6 pm.

The exhibit features the works of transit workers and delivers a perspective on recent major events, including the attacks of 9-11; Northeast Blackout, the Blizzard of 2010, Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy with images, artifacts, oral histories and multimedia experiences. 11 am to 5 pm.

Start off the day with reading a favorite transportation story. For children 2 to 5 years old. 11:30 am to noon.

BHS’s photography and correspondence collection reveals the personal stories of Brooklyn soldiers and their families during the American Civil War, uncovering tales that are often moving, light-hearted, and tragic at the same time. Noon– 5 pm.
