Friends,
I wish a happy New Year of 5776 to the Jewish communities of Brooklyn and beyond. Our borough is home to everyone from everywhere, including thousands of families that will celebrate and pray together during these High Holidays. As the sound of the shofar echoes in synagogues from Borough Park to Brighton Beach, the reverbations should awaken one and all to tikkun olam, repairing the world through charity and social justice. Tradition teaches us that the book of life is opened on Rosh Hashanah and sealed on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. May we all be sealed in the Book of Life in the year ahead. L’shana tovah tikatev v’taihatem.
